Ohio Supreme Court asks lawmakers to OK bail changes to free more pre-trial prisoners

This is a great start, but we’ve got a long way to go.


"Impoverished people sitting in jail because 'they can’t afford bail serves nobody’s purpose” and extracts a human cost in lost jobs, lost homes and estranged families,' [Chief Justice O'Connor] said."


My courtroom will always be a place that seeks to release non-violent offenders in a safe manner as soon as possible, so they can avoid these life-altering collateral consequences of being involved in our court system.
