Hi, I'm Jennifer

I've been a dedicated union employee and member of AFSCME Local#3631 since 2008. As an AFSCME member, I have worked tirelessly as an attorney with the Cuyahoga County Public Defender's office. I have represented thousands of indigent members of our community in a variety of criminal and civil matters. AFSCME Local #3631 has the largest membership of public defenders in the State of Ohio.

My Father, Dave Mitchell, was a proud member of Local #42 Plumbers and Pipefitters for 45 years, serving as Business Manager for a majority of my childhood. My father's union job and ability to earn a living wage always allowed him to provide for our family. Later in his career, he worked as a union organizer through Local #55 Plumbers in Cleveland. After retirement, he taught welding at Terra Community College in Fremont. I am proud to carry on his legacy as a union member and public servant.

What I'll do next

Transparency Efficiency

Compassionate Justice

I have served as an attorney with the Cuyahoga County Public Defender’s Office since 2008. Throughout my career, I have represented thousands of indigent Cuyahoga County residents in the variety of criminal and civil custody proceedings. I believe that my defense background will enable a fresh perspective and bring innovative ideas to better serve the needs of our community.

As a public defender, I am afforded an “up close & personal” view of the criminal justice system in Cuyahoga County. Because of my experience, I am extremely committed to working with our county government to improve the conditions in the Cuyahoga County Jail.

I will work tirelessly for bail reform and expanded mental health & substance abuse services for defendants. The ultimate goal of my campaign is to lower crime recidivism rates and create more productive members of our community.

I believe that my legal experience, labor background, and Democratic ideals prepare me to serve as a Judge in Cuyahoga County with dignity and compassion. Please support my campaign!
